v1.3 UPDATED FOR SIM UPDATE 5! (Tested great in SU7 and SU8 Beta too!)
- Entire aircraft remodel - Added castering tailwheel, removed stumps!
- New animations - more realistic control movements - adheres to the documentation
- Weight and Balance readjusted
- Asobo livery removed - it was causing 'Z-fighting issues'
- Nosewheel cowl filled
Introducing my rendition of a Robin 'DR250-160 Capitaine'
Watching videos of 'Speedjojo' fling into impossible strips in the French Alps that we now have access to in FS2020, really made me want to fly something similar! The Robins and Jodels flying around the French Alps, hills and countryside are amazing to see, but the standard 'cadet' is far too underpowered for this, and a taildragger is always more fun!
This is what this aircraft is all about.
Aircraft highlights:
I set about creating this tailwheel conversion of the default DR400 cadet in late 2020.
- The DR250 Capitaine is a derivative of the DR221, itself a derivative DR1050M1, with an all moving tailplane.
- The owner of this aircraft decided to remove the rear seats to allow higher altitude performance (He may add them back in at a later date). A larger single fuel tank has also been installed to feed the more powerful 160hp engine. (The real one has 2x40 litre wing tanks, a 70 litre main, and a 50 litre reserve. Unfortunately in the sim we only have one tank selector.)
- The range now is around 800nm at 30l/hr. The handling has been improved, and like all taildraggers, you'll need to watch it on the ground!
CoPilots
I've also taken the liberty to get the copilot working with this aircraft.
To change this option, simply run the 'Variant Changer.bat' and select 'with copilot', or 'without copilot' - Now this will also change your weight and balance, and all internal and external views will reflect the change!
Liveries
All DR400 liveries should work with this model (except ones that simply change the default livery colours - I have created a converter to do this for you!
Simply copy the converter folder to the livery you'd like to use and run the DR250.bat file.
More details are given in the converter's instructions.txt
You'll also find a Thumbnails folder, which you can use at your leisure for any of your converted liveries. I've included most of those available on flightsim.to - simply place them in your converted livery TEXTURE folder and overwrite.
***IMPORTANT***
Sim Update 5 changed the panel.cfg of all liveries. They will need to be updated or the radio won't work. Either run the converter again, or simply copy the panel.cfg file from this base model across to each livery.
To make the external registration invisible, simply change the external size from: 0, 0, 1024, 0 to 0, 0, 0, 0
To make the cockpit registration invisible, simply change the internal size from 0, 0, 256, 64 to 0, 0, 0, 0

Show me what you've found looks good here, or at the Flight Simulator forums!
Modelling Limitations
This aircraft has been converted from the default MSFS DR400. Limitations of this aircraft model:
- Only one external LOD available, internal LODs have been adjusted
- Cabin is still the DR400 cabin
- Cockpit is still the DR400 cockpit
Airstrip recommendations
This aircraft loves the French high elevation and sloped altiports like Courchevel and Mt. Aiguille (LF79 in sim).
Do yourself a favour and do a search for 'altiport', 'altisurface', alps, France, Italy, or airports starting with LF, LI, LO, LS - there are tens of awesome and fun strips here on this site to play with - all free!
Some suggestions: L'Alpe d'Huez LFHU, Notre Dame de la Salette LFPS, Rockfall LS60 (although this Robin will struggle with that!), Locher Field LOCH, Cipières LF0652, Saint-Roch Mayeres LF430, Castillon de la Laquette (Baragès) LFMB - there's going to be too many to list!
Let us know some great places to fly, either here, or at the Flight Simulator forums!

I would love to see it get all 4 Seats and maybe a GNS530/430. I hope you can maybe keep it up to date for the next SU. There aren't any of the proper Robins out there still. I hope we get the Diesel Dr.400 and a Remoceur 180hp.

I'd love to rebuild the entire thing from scratch, but real life in aviation has been quite annoying the past while! Once it settles down I'll at least get some skis on this one. Adding the Garmin will require a cockpit rebuild.
I always check to ensure it's working on the latest SU!

Is there any paintkit for the DR400 or DR250 ? I would like to create 2 liveries but the files are almost impossible to work on appart from searching for ages which plane part is where...
Parorng author
It's exactly the same as the default DR400.
I recommend looking into 3d painting using Blender and stencil painting. The UV maps for all aircraft are all over the place.

Then there's the method Asobo use, which is adding cut out paint around the aircraft. It's quite involved and I haven't actually had the time to pull this apart yet.

I had the default livery looking good a while ago, and then suddenly I was unable to import anything back into the sim. Still trying to sort that out, since almost SU5 now.
Anyway, can't wait to see what you come up with!

Merci beaucoup!! fonctionne parfaitement 😊

Wonderful plane, wonderful job... as usual with your works. Do you think to release a ski version for the winter ? Now with particles effects under wheels/skis it would be great ! Nothing better than a taildragger to play in the snow !
Parorng author
It would be all out already if the SDK was playing nicely! Especially as we have some nice skis I can 'borrow' from the other aircraft. Sadly, each time I touch it, and this sim, things seem to go backwards... I'll keep at it, but it hasn't been positive since SU5 for me unfortunately.

Bonsoir,
pourriez-vous nous faire un téléchargement avec pilote solo ?
cela serait parfait

Go to the aircraft's MODEL folder
Rename DR400_cockpit_LYCOMING_LOD00.gltf to DR400_cockpit_LYCOMING_LOD00.gltf.backup
Rename DR400_cockpit_LYCOMING_LOD00.gltf.nocopilot to DR400_cockpit_LYCOMING_LOD00.gltf
and he/she will be gone!

Flew the regular Robin before but this taildragger variant is even better. A lot of fun flying this! Nicely modeled. Recommended.
