Introduction:
This scenery package for MSFS 2020 contains numerous fixes and changes to the whole area near Lake O’Higgins, mainly (but not exclusively) in the Chilean side. This includes five airports, a complete redo of Lake O’Higgins and many other fixes to glaciers, smaller lakes, roads and rivers nearby.
Lake O’Higgins (or Lake San Martín in Argentina) is a Patagonian lake shared by Chile and Argentina with approximately 1013 km2 (10,903 ft2) in total. It is the third largest lake in Chile and the deepest lake in America (and fifth in the world) with a maximum depth of 836 m (2,742 ft). This lake, with more than 8 branches making it one of the most irregular in Patagonia, is located at 255 m (2,745 ft) above sea level and is fed mainly by the melting of glaciers of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, plus some other rivers such as the Mayer River (located next to Villa O’Higgins). Lake O’Higgins drains to the Pacific Ocean through the Pascua River.
This package includes many fixes and five airports for now: Villa O'Higgins Airport (SCOH), Laguna Redonda Airfield (SCIO), Río Pascua Airfield (SCTP), Río Bravo Airfield (SCRB) & Entrada Mayer Airfield (SCEY).
Disclaimer: If you downloaded my previous and now obsolete upload (AD Laguna Redonda SCIO), it is necessary to delete that file from community before adding the files in this package (which are all needed for it to work correctly). The airports are independent of each other, but the landscape changes aren’t, and not adding one of the files may glitch the landscape.
IMPORTANT: The file names were changed after V1.3, so you have to delete "scio-scenery", "scoh-scenery", sctp-scenery" and "ohiggins-poi".
VERSION 1.0:
Lake O'Higgins Surroundings:
- Lake O’Higgins was remade completely given the many problems with its coasts were water was missing or it was covering land. Plus terraforming the edges eliminating cliffs where there are not and making the mountain slopes more realistic.
- 16 new Points of Interest (POI) were added.
- Deep holes in the ground near Cerro Mellizo Sur were closed and mountain peaks were added instead.
- Many glaciers were remade, such as O’Higgins Glacier, Gaea Glacier, Chico Glacier, El Mosco Glacier, and many others.
- Ice before covered by water were uncovered in Lake O’Higgins and other smaller lakes that are born from glaciers.
- Houses along all the coast of Lake O’Higgins were added or fixed and lights were included.
- Boats and ferries were added (mainly between Puerto Bahamondes, Candelario Mancilla and O’Higgins Glacier.
- Trees were added where they were lacking.
- Many smaller lakes were also completely remade and terrain problems were fixed.
Villa O'Higgins Airport (SCOH):
- New runway closer to reality (darker asphalt, yellow markings and concrete end for RWY16). In addition, the gravel was added to runway borders as in real life.
- Lights were added to the runway and taxiway.
- New terminal building (generic) added similar to the real one built in the second half of the 2010s.
- New parking lot added.
- Markings were added to the apron and taxiways.
- Added a fence around the entire perimeter of the airport.
- Two windsocks added to each end of the runway and the default one was erased.
- Villa O’Higgins was flattened and buildings over 2 stories were replaced (as there are none in real life), lighting added to Route 7 and park next to the airport.
- Plaza de Armas was remade.
- Two bridges over the Mayer River for Route 7 were changed to generic suspension bridges.
- Boats added to Puerto Bahamondes (main dock).
- Trees added to many mountain slopes close by.
- Mayer River and El Mosco River completely remade.
- Mayer’s River mouth remade from scratch as it was covered by the lake by default.
- Streets of Villa O’Higgins were covered in asphalt, so they are noticeable under snow.
- Town’s antennas and satellite discs were added (with lights).
- Airport’s wood entrance was made.
- Lights added to many houses in the outskirts of the town.
- Lakes North and West of the airport were fixed, remade and/or added.
Laguna Redonda Airfield (SCIO):
- New runway closer to reality (made of gravel instead of asphalt and with dimensions according to satellite images and DGAC). In addition, the boundaries described in the
introduction were added.
- A gravel parking space (apron) is also added, as well as a fence around the entire perimeter of the airfield.
- The two corresponding windsocks were added each to each end of the runway.
- The two default bridges that expanded over the Obstáculo River were removed given that they were too large and poorly located. They were replaced only by the new road segment that was added in the vicinity of the airport.
- The water was erased from one of the tributary streams of the Obstáculo River to the North of the runway as it was excessively wide and it distorted the forest.
- Water was added to a more than 200 Chilean and Argentinean lagoons/ponds and lakes not well represented originally in the vicinity of the aerodrome (including the mountain range) and edges of Lake O'Higgins. Plus, many other bodies of water present by default were fixed.
- Forest was added to the west slope of the valley since it was missing more than half of it.
- Small tweaks in terms of land, boats and buildings in Calendario Mancilla and around the Lago del Desierto.
- A yellow car was added near runway 04 as it was present in Bing Maps.
- Improvements to the Obstáculo River were made in the vicinity of the aerodrome, narrowing the channel and correcting the terrain and the adjacent forest.
Río Pascua Airfield:
- Given the absence of any runway material, a new runway made of gravel with dimensions according to satellite images and DGAC was added. In addition, the same boundaries
described for SCIO were added.
- A gravel parking space (apron) is also added, as well as a fence around the entire perimeter
of the airfield.
- The two corresponding windsocks were added each to each end of the runway.
- The bridge that crossed the Bergues River (East from the airport) was replaced.
- Pascua River, Bergues lake and the fiord’s coast were completely remade.
- Water was added to many ponds not present by default.
- Trees were added to the some places near the Pascua River where they were missing.
- Houses in the vicinity were included or fixed and lights were added.
- Trees on each end of the runway were added and made closer to reality.

I live in FRancia and O' Higgins is my preferred location in the world.
Thank you for improving it. I have not seen any boat. Is there a setting to do?

Stopped here on my world trip. Lovely area, thank you for doing this. I'm going to spend some time seeing what there is to see.
Although I must say, using tall concrete barriers on the sides of rather narrow runways are an interesting choice. But maybe that's how they are IRL.

Thank you for your comment! And about those barriers, in real life they aren't made out of concrete, but I used the asset of the object library that looked the most similar to the actual thing (I'll send you a picture of what they actually look like), eventually I might make my own and upload them so they look more realistic :)

Please make note that you changed the filenames from "sxxx-scenery" so that we don't have old scenery in our community folder. A lot of people seem to be doing this, and it's getting frustrating.
werepug author
I was sure I had added a disclaimer but then saw that it was on my Porvenir scenery that I updated at the same time, thank you for making me realize! Now its in the description, in the changelog and in the guides included with the download :)
