YMML Melbourne International Airport Version 0.8
Anyone with modelling experience wanting to add a custom model to YMML please feel free to get in contact and I will add your contribution with full credit of your work
INSTALLATION (please read carefully)
1. Download the provided zip file
2. Unzip the "australia-airports-ymml-melbourne" into community folder
3. Delete any other YMML scenery from community folder
Version 0.8
-Terminal model kindly provided by NSAJID who converted the model originally from xplane. As model is incororated please ensure only one scenery is present in community folder to prevent double up.
-Deleted static gates from model and terraformed terrain to model
-Removed random trees that appeared after latest sim update and compiled with latest SDK
Version 0.7
-Custom taxiway centre and edge lighting placement covering whole airport for better night flights
-Attempt at flattening terraforming bumps
-Optional GSX profile provided for domestic terminals with custom pushback for Fenix A320 and PMDG 737-800 where appropriate
Version 0.6
-Recommend to delete previous Aerial Ortho if installed as the new bing data is more current
-Added taxiway V extension
-This very well may be the last update as ORBX is confirmed to be working on a payware YMML
Version 0.5
- Compatible with latest SU5
- Recompiled using latest SDK 14.1
Version 0.4
- Custom painted lines
- Some minor heightmap adjustments
Version 0.3
-Optional Google Maps ZL19 level orthophoto for surrounding area
-removed grass colouration to explose higher quality ortho
-replaced Parkroyal Hotel with a more appropriate default building
-expanded range of the 10m lidar DEM
Version 0.2 (Please note airport now requires some common scenery libraries)
- working vehicle taxiways and fuel truck
- further ground textures
- scenery files such as ILS, VOR, radio towers and more
Version 0.1 includes
- 10m lidar DEM from Victoria land, water and environment planning of the airport and immediate surrounding area. (If there are any significant and innacurate bumps please do let me know)
- the majority of true to life parking spots with correct names except for some of the smaller G57 - 60 ones due to lack of quality current satelite imaging
-Apron and taxiways with colours which attempt to match the satelite
- night apron lighting (If you have previously installed the YMML lighting mod please delete as this will show up as doubled lights). Thanks to the author angrybender as I have based there light positioning and then slightly refined the placements to better suit my ground markings
-Taxiway system should give correct directions in default ATC and AI does follow to gates
-Taxiway signs (I may have missplaced some and do appologise if a couple are incorrect in there layout)
I hope you find this mod a slight improvement on the default Melbourne International which is quite poor to be nice in the game. This is definately a work in progress and at this stage does not require any library packs to function.
I do not currently possess any blender skills and would be more than happy for someone to help model buildings to be included in the project with full credit given. Please feel free to PM me.
Information
Melbourne Airport (IATA: MEL, ICAO: YMML), colloquially known as Tullamarine Airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Melbourne, and the second busiest airport in Australia. It opened in 1970 to replace the nearby Essendon Airport. Melbourne Airport is the main international airport of the four airports serving the Melbourne metropolitan area, the other international airport being Avalon Airport.
The airport comprises four terminals: one international terminal, two domestic terminals and one budget domestic terminal. It is 23 kilometres (14 miles) northwest of the city centre, adjacent to the suburb of Tullamarine. The airport has its own suburb and postcode—Melbourne Airport, Victoria (postcode 3045).[4]
In 2016–17 around 25 million domestic passengers and 10 million international passengers used the airport.[5] The Melbourne–Sydney air route is the third most-travelled passenger air route in the world.[6] The airport features direct flights to 33 domestic destinations and to destinations in the Pacific, Europe, Asia, North America and South America. Melbourne Airport is the number one arrival/departure point for the airports of four of Australia's seven other capital cities.[a] Melbourne serves as a major hub for Qantas and Virgin Australia, while Jetstar utilises the airport as home base. Domestically, Melbourne serves as headquarters for Australian airExpress and Toll Priority and handles more domestic freight than any other airport in the nation.

Required Dave's 3D People Library by BadMed
I would recommend unlist it from required items or change it to a different 3D people library.

Other than that, this is a very well done addition to flight sim. Keep up the good work.

Mate, even though Orbx released YMML a week or two ago, I just wanna say thanks for what you did. You filled a massive gap in everyone's sim experience. Thank you.

Much appreciated mate. I have purchased the ORBX one myself so yeah this will be left in the state that it is now. Only too happy to help the community

How do we obtain the GSX profile?
DanR86 author
I need to fix it in terms of pushbacks along with some mesh issues. Apologies but I have just been very busy lately. In time it will be done!

Nice! It'd be fun to model some plane spotters in the car park at the north end of the main runway 😊

Any chance of looking into the southern side of the airport? Where the Melbourne Jet Base is etc. The taxi ways just end.
SpikeMikki
A big upgrade from the default airport. Great detail to use on VATSIM with no problem.

Appart from the terraforming issues/bumps around the Intl terminal i mentioned on an older comment, the west building of the intl terminal and its bridge (building aroung gates D10 & D16-D20), needs to be shifted a little towards a south-southeast direction. (can dm for images). I did keep the older version of it, with the default buildings, just in case.

Can't seem to get the terminal model to appear either like some others. Any ideas why?
ecstaticaviator
for some reason it only displays the default terminal for me, any ideas?
ecstaticaviator
it also says "not installed" in the content manager, but everything else in my community folder is installed fine.

Whats the go with the GSX profile since version 0.8 was released with the new building models? There is no GSX profile in 0.8, I've applied the profile from 0.7 but the jetways dont seem to line up properly with the buildings. They also look different to the recent screenshots you've uploaded.
kamikazee
For anyone wondering if your jetways arent lining up properly, it appears you need to exclude the jetways from GSX 'World of Jetways' for YMML in the config settings.
