This mod contains various small fixes for issues with default MSFS in Papua New Guinea - mostly flattening weird spikes which appear due to mesh data problems.
Hope this makes flying in Papua New Guinea a bit more immersive.
Looking forward to the default mesh for this area being improved, so this mod won't be needed any more.
Please vote for an MSFS World Update for PNG / western New Guinea!
Hope you enjoy the mod. Leave a rating or comment if you can.
You might also be interested in my Papua / New Guinea airfield maintenance mod, which includes improvements for more than 400 default MSFS airfields in PNG - mostly trimming unrealistically huge trees from short final approaches.
Changes in the latest update (2.0.0):
- Fixed some spikes on the south side of the Finisterre Range
- Fixed some cloud patches on the north side of the Finisterre Range
- Fixed a spike north-west of AYMW and some cloud patches in the area
- Improved several cloud patch fixes
- Removed all the fixes for western New Guinea (Indonesia) - these have now moved to the western New Guinea fixes mod.
If you enjoy bush strip flying in Papua New Guinea and western New Guinea (it's the best in the world!), check out Bush Divers.
This mod is included in my mega mod for PNG and western New Guinea. If you download the mega mod, you can in future just update that single mod to get airfields, airstrip fixes, terrain fixes and more for Papua New Guinea and western New Guinea (Indonesian Papua province and other provinces), instead of having to update multiple mods.
You can then delete my other mods from your flightsim.to downloads list, so you only get notified about updates to the mega mod.

Thank you for the fixes. However, I have still noticed those cones a couple of times during the flights. They are not protruding from the skyline but are there next to a mountain, still lower than the height of the neighbouring mountain.
Nonetheless, thank you for your time, kindness and your service. Highly appreciated. 5 stars!

Thanks. There are still many spikes in PNG - I've flattened a number of them in this mod, but each one has to be individually flattened - it's a manual process. So if you can give me coordinates, or a detailed description of the location, for any that you see, that would be helpful.

Hi Wantok😄
Mi laikim dispela tumas! Thanks for updating this. Appreciate your work. Used to fly a taildragger around the Finisterre's a very long time ago in another lifetime! Your sceneries and fixes make it possible again

Tenkyu tru! And thanks for all the airports you're making. I haven't been to the Finisterre/Saruwaged area much IRL but it's one of my favourite areas for sim flying, for sure.

I love the fixes but wanted to know about the mesh you mentioned. Does this add forests to the area? I've been taking short hops over the terrain just to see it and get challenging landings but was unable to see runway for WAWK, so I spawned there next time and ended up on a forest. That made me want to learn the SDK so I could fix the airport but could not get rid of the vegetation. Without this mod the airport was pretty barren. Interesting...
I'm glad I got going on the SDK, it's fun learning it and playing with my own mods is great.

Hi, thanks for the kind comments. A couple of things: yes, these terrain fixes do include adding large-scale vegetation in some places (usually where there is cloud baked into the default satellite imagery). But it should not be covering any airstrips - that would have been a mistake. In the current versions of these mods, WAWK is not covered with vegetation (it's unfortunately in a bad patch of satellite imagery - very light coloured with very little vegetation; I will add some improvement to this area in a later version of my western New Guinea fixes mod). I recommend you delete all mods starting with wantok- in your community folder, and then download and unzip my mega mod https://flightsim.to/file/37885/mega-mod-for-png-and-western-new-guinea to get the latest versions. BTW the Indonesian side of New Guinea is not covered by this mod (wantok-terrain-fixes-png) any more: those fixes have moved to my wantok-western-new-guinea-fixes mod. Both are included in the mega mod.

Must have for PNG flying.

Wantok, thank you very much!

This mod fixes the numerous problems in standard MSFS in PNG. Recommended for everyone who likes bush flying in that region.

Thanks. Very much appreciated! Removal of these kind of errors in the terrain model by MSFS community members should be more encouraged by Asobo. As the other suggestion stated, X-plane already has this where the community can contribute directly the world scenery.

That would be a horrible idea, would quickly end in chaos with all the (sometimes not so professional) fixes. I think making a mod with fixes is a much better way, you can optionally use it if you want but don't have to live with all the community fixes if you don't want it.

should be that sort of contribution for the whole community... saying, Asobo provides a server to upload this kind of good correction (after an evaluation process) and distribute free on their server (or as fix to download) so automatically downloadable... and no more recollecting manually several correcting files from versatil places over the www...
but again thank you for your effort, helps a lot for all
wantok author
Yes, that would be great - something similar to how X-Plane has a system for community contributions to its airport data (and so it seems to have much more detailed and accurate airports than MSFS, so far)...
