Nieuport 23 as flown by Lt. Edmund Thieffry of 5th Escadre de Chasse 'Comète', Belgian Air Force, summer 1917. Lt Thieffry was a Belgian Air Force ace with 10 victories to his name. After the war he became one of the founders of Sabena in 1923, and succesfully completed the first flight from Belgium to Belgian Congo in 1925, taking 51 days to reach Leopoldville. He was killed in a crash near Lake Tanganyika in 1929, at the age of 36. Thieffry metrostation in Etterbeek, Brussels, his birthplace, was named in his honour.

I used to live not that far from the metrostation Thieffry, never knew where the name came from until I painted this..
