10D - Winsted Municipal Airport - Winsted, MN
Winsted Airport is located roughly 35 miles west of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in Central Minnesota. This is a wonderful looking GA airport consisting of a single turf runway (9-27) at 3248 ft. in length. It has numerous hangars and also sports the west location of Skydive Twin Cities. While I have never been to this location, through internet search I see they do skydiving out of a C182 and also it appears that a C208 is used as well for larger groups. This is one of the few remaining public turf fields in the Twin Cities area.
I flew in here as part of my "around the state" flights in the sim and found that the default MSFS airport is in rough shape. It consisted of the east/west runway and some autogen buildings for hangars. It had the rotating beacon but almost a mile away from the airport in a field. There were no taxiways drawn by default either. Thus I gave it my update using stock items minus the one library object added which is listed below.
Modifications include:
- Addition of taxiways to match existing layout found via internet searches and other videos (thanks to the Stinson youtube video with the drone, it was a great help!)
- Autogen buildings replaced with hangar types. Most are default objects while one hangar and all the yellow runway cones added from the colinj library (credit to the creator for these!)
- Runway lighting added (Low intensity lights) and as mentioned yellow cones added to the runway.
- Windsock added and the rotating beacon was placed in the accurate location (incorrect beacon was removed)
- Four parking locations added
- Various other airport objects added for additional realisim
