This is a livery repaint of the German Air Force RF-104G "Aufklärungsgeschwader 51 Immelmann" - Code: 24+00.
(RF-104G means Reconnaissance Fighter)
The coding took place at the beginning of the deployment of the F-104 with the German Air Force - in natural metal design -
with only black letters and numbers. This was the case from 1961 to approx. 1968.
With the introduction of the comouflage finish from around 1969, the black letters and numbers also received a white border line.
Later, from around 1972, only numbers were used, with black paint and a white border line.
This aircraft is shown with tip tanks and pylon tanks with bright orange colored bands/identifiers.
The reconnaissance squadron AG 51 (Immelmann) had a white circle with a red owl as its coat of arms on the front fuselage section.
Immelmann was a famous German World War I fighter pilot after whose name the AG 51 was named.
After a few attempts to convert an F-104G to an RF-104G (Reconnaissance Fighter), the version shown here was finally used.
This version consists in the fact that instead of the complete cannon with accessories, one from the hull camera housing protruding
behind the nose gear, was installed. This version RF-104G is part of the SSW F-104G.
Homebase AG 51: Beginning in 1963: Manching (near Ingolstadt) ICAO Code: ETSI. Later Bremgarten ICAO Code: EDTG
This RF-104G was in service with the AG 51 from November 21, 1963.
