To include animations of the spoilers working, I recommend https://flightsim.to/file/36006/pelican-improvement-mod by LordFrites.
With great power comes the need for great brakes. Version 3 adds speed brakes. Speed brakes respond to the toggle spoilers keybind, "/" and/or the spoilers axis if you want fine control. No animations (yet?), nor in-cockpit clickspots. Keys/buttomns/axis only.
Version 2 exposes the hidden nose machine gun.
Well, If we're going to have alien spacecraft flying around, we might as well have some fun too.
This mod increases the Pelican's power and adjusts the flight model to enable higher speeds and power it's way to the upper atmosphere and the edge of space.
Unzip and just add this folder to your community folder.
- To use:
- Take off in VTOL
- Gear up
- Set about half throttle
- Make sure you're pointed in the direction you want to go
- Transition to flight mode (panel switch or afterburner button) and gain some airspeed.
- Pitch up about 10 deg and apply full throttle.
- When the Mach meter gets to about 2.0 it'll start accelerating faster
- You'll have to throttle back eventually, aim for about 1000 knots indicated airspeed.
- When you get to a good altitude (130,000+), autopilot can be used to fly level, and autothrottle to about 990 knots.
- Enjoy space
It flies similar to the Darkstar. Changing direction at M5+ takes time, easy on the stick and don't blackout.
This is a work in progress, and I hope to improve it, but this works for now. At low altitudes, it doesn't like to slow down, so use hover/VTOL to slow below 200 knots for landing.
Suggestion: Looking out the loading door into space is better in VR. A flat pic doesn't do it justice.

Amazing, actually makes the pelican fun to use now!
ponny2oo2
Good idea BUT this mod is not good, you cant fly smooth enough nor control the aircraft at high altitude.
PilotalexYYZ
Ahaha this is actually much better now. I was like what am i going to do with this default aircraft. Now its like well this is fun!
ElKami
nice.. work. but this is toooo fast... toooo much power... i think the standard flight model is enought... but the Overspeedmarker has been change.
too powerfull not flightable, you have to set the trim trim 100% to -100% binnen seconds..
I hope you release a version with the original power and
accelerate but more flyable speed, like the f18 with no overspeed warning
my english is not good. 😞
ETETETET
i put it in the community folder but it did not work
ETETETET
how do i download

I am really happy to see this project, but the way you describe it makes it seem like it would be hard to keep to low speeds at lower altitudes? Is this the case? And if so could it be an idea to introduce a third flight mode, or suborbital/hypersonic flight?
Cammy9r
Have you tried it yet?
Just throttle back more and use the spoilers.

Thank you for making Pelican a space ship. I like to have the Pelican high in the space, but probably not with the price of the maneuverability at 10K 20K ft.
VTOL makes sense below 3K ft, but VTOL at around 3K to 20K is very odd in my point of view. Please make the in atmosphere flight a better experience if possible,
WhiteGinger3000
The autopilot is very wonky at these heights and speeds though. It just decides to go into idle until 990 is hit and then full throttle. Rinse and repeat. Kinda funny to watch tbh lol

Good job this is great fun. Much more stable flight than the one I was trying to mod. Although I did enjoy the challenge of getting it up there for M7.89. I also changed to hover altitude to 100,000ft.

Thanks for this great mod! Great job! And you can do what would work gps?

You sir are on a roll. Thank you for making this so awesome!
EDWI_WHV
It's cool thank you good job!

Fantastic job mate! You, very quickly, very efficiently, turned this boring, slow, incompetent Pelican into something we wished it was when we all saw the reveal trailer!
I have some plans on my side on how to improve this aircraft... I will contact you directly, because now that I know I can avoid working on the flight model (leave this part to your great mod) and focus on the other parts, I'm a bit more confident about what can be done 😉
But anyway, thanks a lot for this quality work, you really made the Pelican a powerful and fun machine!
darshonaut
will try this out and fly into the atmosphere, awesome 😊
