On the banks of the Dnipro River about 100 kilometers south-east of Kyiv, this heliport was constructed in 2011 near the grave of Ukrainian bard Taras Shevchenko. It was constructed during the preparations for hosting the Euro 2012 soccer championship, intended to accomodate tourists flying by helicopter from Boryspil airport near Kyiv to visit Shevchenko's grave. In reality it sat unused until 2013, due to the proper certificates and permits remaining incomplete, and was little-used thereafter, until its ownership was transferred to the National Police of Ukraine in 2020. Today it serves as an occasional base for H145 police and SAR helicopters.
The assigned ICAO code, UKIE, is fictitious, because the real ICAO code, UKBE, was used by Microsoft/Asobo for a different airport.
If you like this heliport, be sure to also check out my package of several heliports in the Kyiv area and Oleksandriya Air Base.
