This is a livery for the DC Designs F-14 A/B Tomcat that will make the fighter jet appear like the XP-14F Skystriker from Hasbro's GI Joe franchise.
* The archive includes 4 total liveries (version 1.1) -- 2 for the F-14/A and 2 for the F-14/B. Each jet has a "clean" version and a "grimey" version. The grime overlays were kindly provided by DC Designs.
* This project started out as an experiement, had many stages - took maybe a month to complete and become upload-worthy. There might be some small "issue" areas here and there, so bare with me. I'm considering those as minor at this time. The decals and layout is MOSTLY based on the original toy version (MOSTLY = it might not be 100% accurate but close enough IMO) but some decals are layed out to match other releases of the toy. In short - this livery has a slight mixture of both old toy and new toy. Some positioning had to be adjusted to help be more compatbile with the model. The decals were created in Illustrator and Photoshop using templates and reference images. Layout plan also came from reference images with the assistance of UV layouts provided by DC Designs and UV layouts exported by me from Blender. Blender was used to test the appeareance and location of the decals and textures on the model. Then they were tested in-game.
* Re-textures also include: custom pilot/rio patches, custom pilot/rio helmets, and recolored fuel tanks and missles with decals to closely match the toys.
It's my first livery for MSFS 2020, I hope you like it :) YO JOE!
INSTALLATION
Install is simple:I would assume people know how to install mods for MSFS 2020 at this point in the game, but for the unknowing -- after downloading the archive file, extract or "unzip" the folder named JGW-DCDF14-GIJSkystriker into the Community folder. Start the sim and either when starting a flight plan or in the hanger, choose the F-14/A or B. Go to the liveries and you should see 2 thumbnails for the Skystriker, a regular "clean" version and a "grimey" version.
POSSIBLE ISSUES.
* As mentioned above, there might be some slightly "off" areas with the texturing/decals but for the most part -- it's as good as it's going to get right now. If it's a major issue, I'll try to work on it promptly.
* The "GI Joe" decal on the leftside of the Tomcat, below the cockpit, has a slight distortion. Unfortunately, this isn't something I was able to fix and might be caused by the faces of the 3D mesh itself and can't be fixed by me.
UPDATES
As of 3/04/2023, DC Designs released a free add-on that allows for weapons to appear on their products that have been purchased from the MSFS 2020 Marketplace -- you can get the add-on here. This aircraft has been been tested with the add-on and it works perfectly -- the missles appear as I intended for the livery. Make sure you follow the installation directions for DCD's add-on in order to make it work.
