FS Copilot for Wing 42 Boeing 247
NEEDS MOBIFLIGHT WASM MODULE INSTALLED !
Introduction
The Wing42 Boeing 247D for MSFS does not have an autopilot. It’s near-neutral stability in roll makes it difficult to fly hands-off. This hampers the ability to navigate, operate the radio and so on. I real-life a co-pilot would be able to hand-fly the aircraft for you.
This add-on does that for you. A co-pilot that features simple heading hold & altitude hold with the click of a button!
I flew the B247 (with modded long-range tanks from Lae to Howland, 17 hours over 2200 nm with the help of this Co-Pilot.
But beware, this co-pilot is not perfect. It will swerve left-right and up-down a bit. You need to watch it!
In addition, a few features to overcome issues with the B247 are included. See below for details.
As a co-dev of the B247D I am particularly pleased to release this.
Features
Copilot
- Independent of Asobo autopilot, requires no modification of B247 files
- Easy to used, single click on/off
- Simple (indicated) altitude and (DG) heading hold with some deviations
- You can still handfly & override the co-pilot without switching off
Additional
- Display remaining oil, because the oil burn has issues
- Switch alternator on to charge batteries (B247 has no switch, and is default off in MSFS)
- Display Zulu time (cockpit clock is local time and jumps back/forward)
Installation
Unzip to a place of your liking. Run the executable.
Instructions to use
- Important - Bring the B247 into trimmed cruise flight.
- Important - Release and center the stick and rudder
- Press ‘Engage Otto’ to start co-pilot
- Press ‘Take control’ to stop co-pilot
Limitations
- Co-pilot does not easily & safely recover from upsets, strong turbulence
- Co-pilot will not respond to terrain, mountains, weather
- Co-pilot will NOT do engine management !
Background
Co-pilot uses a custom-built and tuned PID controller.

Just curious, you mention in your description that the MSFS alternator defaults to off and this allows you to control it. But my ammeter indicates charge when flying the 247 in the sim, so wouldn't that mean that it's working? Just looking for some clarification since you said you were one of the devs. Thanks in advance!

Indeed, ammeter shows positive, but the battery is not actually charging. You may also use a keyboard shortcut to enable the alternator.

Sorry to hear.... do you have Mobiflight installed? How does the message 'failed to execute' appear?

Not working for me as well and really want it to. Load button seems to work but the plane does not respond. Take control button does not work and it grays out and fails to respond.

Come to think of it... it may be required to have mobiflight WASM installed. Dies any of you have that?

It doesn't work for me, after setting course and stabilizing myself, when I activate Otto, the load icon appears and the program doesn't respond, does anyone have this problem? or am i doing something wrong?

AlexBlack, sorry to hear. Let's see if others have the same.
