This folder contains a repaint for the North American P-51D by Aeroplane Heaven. I've depicted P-51D OO-RYL #44-72922 L2-W "Scat VII" as it looks at present. Scat VII was flown by Robin Olds until the end of the war and became his lasting Mustang legacy decades later when it was found and salvaged by Warbird pilot and restorer, Jim Shuttleworth, in 1992. Scat VII was rebuilt into a two seater (TF-51D) after Shuttleworth traced the tail number and found out who flew it in WWII. Jim contacted retired BG Robin Olds and asked him if he'd like to fly his Mustang again. Of course the answer was "Yes!" Robin's flight in his Scat VII became quite a media event. Unfortunately, Shuttleworth crashed and died while practicing aerobatics in Scat VII February 13, 2003. Robin was heartbroken at the loss of his friend and served as one of Jim's pall bearers at the funeral. The wreckage was subsequently salvaged by John Lane of Air Power Unlimited in Idaho and restored into an airworthy Mustang. The magnificently reborn Scat VII was purchased by Vintage Flight Foundation in Belgium and is actively flown and proudly displayed in Antwerp. in 2016, Robin's daughter Christina and granddaughter Jennifer were thrilled to fly in Scat VII.
