Brantford CYFD for MSFS: A FS2004 Scenery Recommissioned
I bought FS2004: A Century of Flight years ago as my entry into flightsimming. It wasn't long before I became interested in learning how to make scenery. By networking on simulator forums, I came to understand the simulator and some of the different programs used to create. At the time, GMax was the recommended 3D modeling program. With patience and perserverance, I finally finished my first scenery, my local CYFD, and shared it with the global community. That was 20 years ago. I went on to build other local Southern Ontario scenery and one aircraft, and then quit GMax. I could not tolerate the crashes. But kept my source files.
This file is my first MSFS scenery offering to the flightsim community. It is infact, the same airport I created for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, Brantford Municipal Airport, converted for MSFS. Thanks to the generous folks online willing to teach, and Arno's wonderful program ModelConverterX 1.6, I was able to import this great old scenery into the new platform with nice results. If you know the airport, feel free to share your experience in the comments.
These are the same GMax models I created over 20 years ago. I have not retouched or altererd the models, just brought them into the sim and built the airport detail around them using the SDK. What you will see with this scenery is, a photoreal depiction of CYFD as it was then, using 20 year old polygons. It's a thrill for me to have this airport brought back to life in the "new" simulator. I hope you enjoy your stay, please take some time and look around.
As a former BCATP base during WWII, through CYFD's history, many new pilots graduated from here, it hosts the best little airshow in Ontario, is featured in several television productions. It used to have 2 relic C-47 on the East tarmac, and still, has the best bacon/egg breakfast around.
**Just to Note**
- There are some little GMax artifacts in this converted 20 year old scenery. They are small and barely noticable, I'm not sure how to get rid of them.
- In testing, I flew in from different angles and had a couple minor stutters, but I suspect it was Toronto and my settings which caused the stutters as soon as I faced that direction. The models are very low poly count, and have LODs associated as per the SDK, and so I find the scenery generally smooth on my uppermid level system.
I have used objects from libraries available at Flightsim.to to enhance my scenery. I would like to thank the artists and model creators for their fine work. Very much appreciated. Please refer to the dependencies list. Unfortunately some library contributors have removed their uploads in the "great exodus" and these can not be found here anymore. If you have blatant issues, please let me know and I'll try to fix.

Hi:
I haven't installed this airport just yet but looking forward to it. The reason it's not installed is that I can't find one of the libraries: ESD ModelLib.
I'm pretty sure I've got all the rest but maybe you could add the links to help others who don't have as much time on their hands as I do - it took over an hour to suss out all the downloads!

Thank you! Glad you like. Brantford Airport is close to my heart, I have lots of great memories there of my kids when they were little.

Another great southern Ontario airport to add to my collection. Thanks! Only time I've ever been to this airport is when I visited the Aircraft Spruce outlet on the grounds. Great little aviation supplies store for real-life (and even sim) pilots.

Beautiful Scenery. Don't usually flightsim in Ontario but had to check out your FS9 portover. Obviously a lot of love and work went into this project. Wish more creators were as dedicated. Thank U
