This folder contains a repaint for the Short Stirling by Virtavia. It shows Short Stirling Mk.I R9250 AA-W of No.75 (New Zealand) Squadron, based at Newmarket, 1943. It took off from Newmarket on 3 February 1943 to bomb Hamburg. Poor weather conditions forced many of the in total 263 bombers (of which 6 were Stirlings) to return early, scattering the aircraft. R9250 was intercepted near Ingen in the Netherlands, and shot down by the Bf-110 of Hauptmann Reinhold Knacke of 1./NJG1. Hptmn Knacke himself was shot down and killed by another Stirling of 214 Sqn, R9197 that same night). R9250 crashed near Ingen, and all RNZAF crew members, P/O Ken Blincoe, P/O. Andrew Scott, Sgt.Desmond Hayward, Sgt. Frank Boese, Sgt. George Wood, F/O. Harold Lowe and Sgt. Edward McDermott, aged between 19 and 33, were killed. There are all buried at Amersfoort General Cemetery in the Netherlands. Repaint by JanKees.
