Beschreibung

Description
Beechcraft Super King Air 350C HB-GII survey aircraft
The Beechcraft Super King Air 350C HB-GII was put into operation on November 30, 1993 by the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo as a survey aircraft. It replaced the Rockwell Grand Commander 680FL, only civilly registered as HB-GCB. The Super King Air is equipped with two precision aerial cameras and GPS navigation. It is primarily used for land surveying at a constant height. Since autumn 2004 it has been given the Swiss Air Force registration T-721 and with a new livery in 2009 the aircraft is still in service today.
The machine is primarily used for updating the Swiss national maps in a 6-year cycle. Furthermore, flights are carried out to map forest damage, hydrology and glaciology, and environmental events such as rockfalls and floods are recorded. Black and white, color/transparency or false color/infrared material is used for these jobs, depending on the application.
Thanks to its high cruising speed and range, the aircraft is also suitable for international projects. For example, in 1997 a part (8,600 km²) of Kyrgyzstan was flown over on behalf of the EDA/SDC to create a land register cadastre for GIS applications. In the years 2000 and 2001 the province of Kosovo was surveyed extensively (9600 km²) for digital orthophoto applications on behalf of the UNO mission in Kosovo.
The HB-GII was also used for passenger transport (e.g. Bundesrat) for a number of years. To do this, the cameras installed for the survey flights had to be removed.
The machine is still in use today on behalf of the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. It is flown by members of the Professional Aviation Corps (BFK), the Air Reconnaissance Service (FD LA) of the Swiss Air Force.
