Cook Airport serves the remote location of Cook, South Australia on the Nullarbor Plain. It is the only stop on the Nullarbor for the Indian Pacific sleeper train, and a passing and refueling point for other trains. Sometimes called a ghost town, Cook was at one point home to hundreds of Trans-Australian Railway workers and their families. After privatization in the late 90s and reduced maintenance needs due to modern railway technologies, the town all but ceased to exist. The only remaining permanent residents are a railway employee and his family. Besides rail and air, the only other way to reach Cook is by a 110km unsealed road off the Eyre Highway. The airport is 370km NW of Ceduna, 725km NW of Port Augusta, and 850km east of Kalgoorlie. Plan carefully, there are no services whatsoever and the nearest publicly available fuel is back in Ceduna.
The main focus here was to fix the runways which were oversized ashpalt with strange overlapping gravel aprons. It is strongly suggested that you download and install the Mikea.at Asset Pack and Colinj's Library, as this scenery uses some of those assets.
Version 1.0:
- Corrected runway material from concrete to dirt
- Removed auto-generated windsock
- Added parking location
- Removed blurry autogen roads near the airport
- Removed airport service vehicles
- Added large radio tower and support building
- Misc. scenery and vegetation fixes/additions
If I've overlooked anything or you have any suggestions, please leave a comment.
Thanks, and enjoy!
