This is a livery for the IAF F-16 honoring the 90th anniversary of the 23rd Gruppo squadron (1918-2008). It was presented to the public on June 20, 2008 at Cervia AB at an event called Cervia Spotters Day. The livery was created by Giuliano Lazzari and Fabio Orlando, and Lgt. Gilberto Maffessanti was the main painter. The two greyhounds were (jokingly) named "Fufu" and "Fifi" by other painters of the aircraft. The greyhound represents the 23rd Gruppo and the octopus represents an insignia of the 71st Squadriglia/Squadron.
I used various references to create the decals in Illustrator. The final layouts and exports to DDS were done in Photoshop. Blender was used to test the modified textures and to create new ones using texture-painting.
KNOWN ISSUES
* The greyhounds received a big update and look better than the initial release but are still not perfect. Their heads still look a little derpy from the sides due to the over-the-top, texture-paint/stencil projection in Blender. This will remain as a work in progress and might take some time to refine. I believe the real-life livery had the names "FiFi" and "Fufu" painted on the paws of the greyhounds but I have decided to leave that off for the time being.
* The grey/yellow stripe on the octopus-side of the tail is not 100% accurate to the reference images. I made it to where it's basically a reflection of the stripe on the left-side with some added cuts to somewhat resemble the octopus/stripe from the reference images.
* The octopus on the right-side of the tail is maybe a pixel or two off where it is seperated from the rudder.
