XV408 served with 6, 19, 23 and 29 Sqns. After retirement, she was displayed on the parade ground within RAF Halton (and therefore completely out of sight from outside the station). She was mounted on blocks and made a good background to graduation photos. Sadly though, she lost her overall blue scheme and was put in an anonymous grey scheme, lacking even squadron markings.
In 2003, the aircraft was moved to RAF Fairford for inclusion in the '100 years of flight' static display, but did not return to Halton as she was replaced there by a Tornado. She was abandoned in a corner of the airfield at Fairford, and was scheduled to be scrapped. However, a multitude of efforts to save the airframe finally bore fruit with the result that the airframe was gifted to the RAF Museum, who have placed her on loan to the museum at Tangmere.
She initially gained a proper set of markings to finish off her grey scheme, but after that, the museum bit the bullet and repainted back into her famous overall blue scheme, in which she remained until 2021 when she was repainted into her early 6 Squadron camouflage scheme in memory of the Museum's late Chairman, Group Captain David Baron OBE.
Hope you enjoy the repaint and look out for more to come.
A big shout out to Fscabral for allowing me to use some texturing to help with the look of the Phantom.
As always unpack the rar file and drop it into the communities folder.
