This is a set of flight plans followed by Indiana Jones on his journey from the USA to Venice, Italy, in search of his father as depicted by the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". It is in 4 legs and includes LittleNavmap and MSFS flightplans for each leg in addition to a README file with information about each leg, recommended scenery and links, and other important information. All flight plans created in Little Navmap Version 2.8.12 64-bit (revision af004428) and are VFR and GPS-based point-to-point, but they would likely have involved early dead reckoning and potential radio beacons for navigation. The recommended altitude is 9500 feet for most legs, but could be higher. YMMV.
I have also included a custom-created Little Navmap DC-3 performance file based on the Duckworks DC-3 aircraft enhancement file, also available on flightsim.to. You will need to open the ZIP file and put the flight plan files and performance file in a place where you can remember to import them into LIttle Navmap or MSFS. Do NOT drag-and-drop this into your Community folder...nothing will happen.
Wherever possible, I have attempted to remain true to the movie storyline (and who doesn't love the Flying Arrow travel montages?) However, movies are not real life, and creative license is often taken by writers, whereas we are dealing with MSFS "real life" limitations (HEAVY air quotes here). The movie taking place in 1938, transoceanic flight was still a relatively new concept for the time, and this pre-World War II world was largely devoid of the navigational aids, mechanical reliability, and fuel efficiency we now take for granted. That said, have fun with this. There's no wrong way to fly it. You don't have to use a DC-3. You don't have to stop where I've suggested. With Unlimited Fuel turned on, you don't have to stop at all. I hope you enjoy flying this as much as I enjoyed the deep rabbit-hole dive I took into making it.
For full immersion, please go pick up the "W.Donovan Corporation" DC-3 livery we've created specifically for this flight plan. A lot of work, imagination, and detail research went into it. Much thanks and gratitude go to jamespejam from flightsim.to for taking me seriously and enduring my obsession with fictitious livery minutae. Please go see his other wonderful liveries on flightsim.to and leave him some good feedback!
NOTE: These are simply flight plans for Little Navmap and MSFS ONLY. To my knowledge, no copyrighted materials have been used and I make no claims of ownership to any Indiana Jones/Lucasfilm intellectual properties in any way, shape, or form. If George Lucas or Steven Spielberg tell me to take it down, I will. Other than that, I think we're good.
As no other flights are specifically mentioned in the movie, I have not created any flight plans for them; however, it would stand to reason that a flight to the "Cayon of the Crescent Moon" would have occurred due to distance. The carved church in the canyon featured in the movie is in Petra, Jordan, and there are a few bush flights as well as a Jeppson scenery of that very location on flightsim.to, so I'm sure you could quickly cobble together another adventure flight for Indy in the spirit of Last Crusade.
