Qyzylorda Airport (IATA: KZO, ICAO: UAOO) is an airport located 12.5 km (7.8 mi) southeast of Qyzylorda (formerly known as Kzyl-Orda), the capital city of the Qyzylorda Region in Kazakhstan.
The airport resides at an elevation of 131 m (430 ft) above mean sea level. It has one runway which measures 2,700 m × 45 m (8,858 ft × 148 ft).
Since 1988, the airport has been located at its present site. Its construction began in 1986. Previously, the airport was located in the city limits. Today, the city bus station operates in the building of the airport terminal. The first flight from Almaty on Tu-154 airplane was accepted in 1988 already in the new airport.In the airport of Kyzylorda till the middle of 1990th years many An-2 airplanes (more than 50 pieces) were based.On them regular flights (postal-passenger) to many settlements of the region were carried out.
(Leninsk, Kazalinsk, Aralsk, Dzhalagash, Dzhusaly, Chili, Yanykurgan, Kuandarya) and aviation works, as well as 7 Yak-40 airplanes and 3 Mi-8 helicopters. Yak-40 aircraft were used for passenger flights to most regional centers of the country, as well as to the following Russian cities: Orenburg, Yekaterinburg,
Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, etc.
