The KLM PH-KCB MD-11 is my second creation. Don't expect much from this painting, it is version 1.0 which means it will get an update later. for now I wish you a lot of flying fun, kind regards, Jip [OOMEJIP/UNCLEJIP]
Story Time
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has been operating the MD-11 for 21 years now and on October 25th will be the final KLM flight but also the last MD-11 scheduled passenger flight but more importantly the last tri jet passenger service.
The tri jet has had a remarkable history making flying longer routes possible due to low engine reliability in the 1960s. The first tri jets where made by Hawker Siddeley in 1962 and Boeing in 1963. I think its an honour for KLM to operate the last service with there long history of operating McDonnell Douglas aircraft.
In 1985 the MD-11 program was authorized and was launched in 1986. After some years in production KLM eventually announced they would order 10 MD-11s from McDonnell Douglas, the first one delivered being PH-KCA what is still in the fleet and could maybe the last one to leave.
The current aircraft what have left the fleet are now in storage and the fate of the remaining fleet is unknown, some want the final passenger MD-11 to be placed in a museum.
