Boeing 307 „The Flying Penthouse“ (N19904), owned by Howard Hughes
This livery is based on the real Boeing SB-307B (Reg number N19904) called „The Flying Penthouse“, owned by Howard Hughes, photographed in Miami 1939. Hughes wanted to deploy the plane on a mission to break his own round-the-world flight record. Hughes determined that the trip wouldn’t be the best call to make at the time. Therefore, he sold the plane to Texas-based oil tycoon Glenn McCarthy, who renamed it Shamrock. After repainting it, McCarthy’s payments defaulted, and the plane was returned to Hughes. However, it was sadly damaged by Hurricane Cleo in August 1965.
Kenneth W. London went on to purchase the unit for $69 dollars and converted it to a houseboat called Londonaire. Still, after a series of handovers, it was snapped up by Fort Lauderdale resident and Planeboats CEO Dave Drimmer in 1981.
Have fun 😊
