80 years ago today, men crossed the english channel to start the west advance that would end nazi-fascist tyranny.
"Kilroy was here" was a running joke/graphitti with sailors and GIs in the war, and the noseart on the C-47 "Kilroy IS here" could not be more accurate. She was not involved in the D-Day invasion as part of the 92nd Troop Carrier Squadron, but also took part of many of the high importance missions between 1943 and 1943, among the the "Hump" operation over Himalaya and Flying Tigers in ASIA, Operation Torch in NORTH AFRICA and even after the war played a major role in the Berlin Airlift, always lurking the action below from above.
On D-Day "Kilroy is Here" carried the troops of the 82nd “All American” and 101st “Screaming Eagles” Airborne over Normandy in early hours of June 6th to parachute behind enemy lines and secure key positions before the arrival of the invasion fleet. They also towed in airborne glider forces.
Today this livery is seen applied on the C-47 in the Combat Air Museum in Kansas, U.S.
C-47s like Kilroy carried paratroopers of the 82nd “All American” and 101st “Screaming Eagles” Airborne over Normandy in the pre-dawn hours of June 6 to parachute into enemy held territory and secure key positions before the arrival of the invasion fleet. They also towed in airborne glider forces.
This version includes textures with cockpit, cabin, custom cargo, ground equipment and textures for formation flying.
PS.: As soon as possible I will make this livery compatible with the C-47A version too, at the moment the C-47 seem to be encrypted and not accessible
