Numão Castle is a fortified Medieval village, with a long occupational diachrony, dating back to prehistory, chalcolithic and bronze. Documented since 960, by the will of Mumadona Dias, the Numão Castle that exists today is the result of a profound renovation ordered by D. Dinis. Inside the walled space there are traces of housing and the ruins of the church of Stº Maria de Intra-muros, a building with Romanesque-Gothic characteristics. On the way to the castle on the north side you can see what remains of a small church, that of São Pedro de Numão, an ancient pre-Romanesque structure that has been the main object of this research project since 1995. Next to this building there is a necropolis of 21 graves excavated in the rock.
