Mount Nicholas Airstrips, New-Zealand, for MSFS
Real-life airstrips with fictitious ICAO code NZ58
Version 1.4
--Description--
Mount Nicholas is an isolated peak culminating at 1458m located in the western corner of Lake Wakatipu, South Island. At its foot lies Mount Nicholas Station, a farm known for tourism and sheep breeding. In the area, you will find an airstrip, probably very useful if you need to go to Queenstown quickly, just on the other side of the lake.
Nothing complicated with the airstrip, it is pretty flat and you can land there with a Cessna Caravan. Nearby a pair of topdressing/crop dusting airstrips is much tougher challenge! Ideal with the Orbx P750!
--The scene--
It's a new airfield as it doesn't exist in default MSFS. I used default assets, custom handcrafted buildings and also some assets from Beekay's library. Please make sure you have it installed in your "Community" folder.
The surrounding has been heavily edited: conifers have been added, the small lake close to the airstrip has been completely redone, the mouth of the Von river as well, and kilometers of fences have been deployed.
It's a good complement to my other airstrips around Lake Wakatipu:
- Walter Peak Airstrip NZ59 (https://flightsim.to/file/15832/walter-peak-airstrip-nz59)
- Greenstone Station NZ57 (https://flightsim.to/file/19084/greenstone-station-airstrip-nz57)
- Paradise Airstrip NZ56 (https://flightsim.to/file/19404/paradise-airstrip-nz56)
- Glenorchy NZGY (https://flightsim.to/file/19442/glenorchy-airstrip-nzgy)
--What's new--
v1.4
Made compatible with World Update 12 "New Zealand" of February 2023.
v1.3
Recompiled with SU11 SDK.
Few terraforming adjustments. Added some assests.
Only for Orbx mesh use.
v1.2
removed the Airport Services definition files that caused services to disappear from not only this airfield (as intended) but also all the airports in the region or even worldwide (bug from SU5).
So now you may see marshaller or pushback here even if it's not realistic at all, waiting for this situation to be corrected by Microsoft/Asobo.
v1.1
Reworked to make it compatible with Sim Update 5
V1.0
Initial release
--Installation--
Remove all previous versions of this package you may have in your community folder.
Just unzip and drop the "sbworks-airport-nz59-walterpeak" folder into your "Community" folder of MSFS.
It is recommended to install those libraries:
- BeeKay-Pack1 v5.0 (https://www.flightsim.to/file/8887/beekay-pack1)
Download my other scene located few kilometers away from Mt Nicholas Station: Walter Peak Airstrip (NZ59)

Are you making all your work 'Orbx mesh' only? If we don't have New Zealand 'Orbx mesh' should we stick to the older mod version.
SBWorks author
Yes for the time being it should be fine. With the upcoming World Update, this difference should disappear hopefully.

I see somewhere you mentioned you were getting CTD here. I too have them the moment of touchdown. Also at your NZ59. I have not found any workaround

Thanks for the feeback. I have this specific CTD with almost all of my own addons, and with some others too. Up to now I managed to identify a link with one of the runways, without clearly finding a solution. Still working on it.

Nice work with the strips! Please make Glenorchy strip (NZGY) and Manapouri strip (NZMO), close to Te Anau!
And for the info, I also use ORBX Mesh. I think the majority is using it.
SBWorks author
Hi, thanks! Glenorchy is on the list ;) !
