Grumman Goose G21A Redux II Realism Mod
This is a modification to the excellent Grumman Goose G21A Redux II aircraft generously submitted as freeware by @ozWookiee, which must be installed first. It can be downloaded here:

This mod is primarily aimed at improving the flight dynamics and water performance of this aircraft, providing a more realistic flying experience that is much closer to the actual aircraft. This beautifully modelled, uniquely versatile amphibious aircraft is easy to fly from both the land and the water, and learning to fly it successfully is a lot of fun. In addition to the flight model improvements, the engine no longer stalls at idle, the MSFS water wake and spray effects are now visible, and the aircraft can now be realistically steered in the water using either the rudder or differential engine power.
Multiple changes have been made to the engine and flight model parameters, the flotation contact points, and the aircraft weight and balance, which are all detailed in the Change Log file included under the Documentation folder. Some helpful tips for operating this aircraft are also included in the Flight Notes file under the Documentation folder.
Since it is basically a boat with wings, this aircraft may look a little strange and awkward on land when compared to a typical GA aircraft, but its outstanding performance both in the air and on the water more than make up for its strange looks. It's simple, but highly functional design was actually way ahead of its time. With two powerful 450 hp radial engines, a top speed of over 200 mph (175 kts.) and a useful load of over 2500 lbs., coupled with its ability to operate from both land and water, and easily taxi up onto any boat ramp or beach , it is uniquely suited for transporting both passengers and cargo to many otherwise inaccessible remote locations in the world.
To install this mod, simply unzip the download file and copy the entire ozx-aircraft-goose-hd folder into the MSFS Community folder where the original aircraft folder is installed, overwriting the original files when prompted. To uninstall the mod, simply delete and reinstall the entire original aircraft into the Community folder.

What happened to the original aircraft file? It appears to be deleted. It was really good.
MGouge425 author
This mod replaces the original aircraft files with modified ones. To restore the original aircraft, you must delete this one entirely, and then reinstall the original from the download. This is different from removing a mod made to a MSFS default aircraft, because the original aircraft is installed in the COMMUNITY folder and gets overwritten by the mod.

great mod
Everything works great.
It works great with the "Grumman Goose G21A Redux II Mod" from OzWookiee.
SU11 compatibility is given.
Thanks for that.

Is there any possibility of a mod like this for the new default goose with the 40th Anniversay Edition? The default flight model for it feels horrendous and feels way too light. Keep up the good work!

Thanks... I'll take a look at doing a mod for the new default Goose next!

Thank you very much for this mod!

Tip of the day: The easiest way to maintain the optimum mixture setting while climbing or descending is to periodically re-adjust the mixture control for peak fuel flow on the FUEL FLOW gauge. Max fuel flow occurs when the mixture is at the Best Power setting for your current altitude and throttle setting. During cruise, set it for the peak temperature reading on the EGT gauge, which is the Best Economy setting. If the CYL TEMP temperature rises above the green band at the Best Power setting increase the mixture a little further toward rich to increase engine cooling.

Tip of the day: The FUEL FLOW gauge on the overhead panel is backlit with two levels of brightness, bright for day and dim for night, which greatly improves its readability. Unfortunately, there is currently no switch on the panel to control this. It is mapped to the PANEL LIGHTS command in MSFS and can be controlled by binding a key or button to this command, or by just pressing [L] to toggle all of the lights on and off.

Is there a key binding for raising/lowering the wing floats? It can be done from the instrument panel switches, but I can't find a keybinding anywhere in the Controls/Keyboard menu. I'm pretty sure there was a keybinding for this in FSX; did Asobo not port this function into MSFS? I love the way that this sim of the G21 can be landed on water, then "crawl" up onto a beach after lowering the landing gear! But there is a problem with water landings: there's not nearly enough drag. In the real world, after touching down on the water, a flying boat like the Goose or the HU-16 Albatross should slow to a stop very quickly after cutting power. The Goose will coast along through the water almost as long as it does on a runway landing, and this is completely unrealistic. Takeoffs from water are also too easy: the G21 as simmed will take off without using any flaps, even at MTOW with a full load of fuel, and in the real world, this should be impossible. Also, from an external view, it doesn't look like the plane comes up on the step as you accelerate during a water takeoff. It should initially plow through the water with the hull fully submerged, then climb onto the step and start planing at about 40~50 knots depending on weight, then lift off at about 80 kt with 1/2 flaps. I'm not complaining, the Goose is a blast to fly as is, but if you could tweak the water behavior to be a bit more realistic, it would be fantastic.
MGouge425 author
The unrealistic water behavior issues are limitations of the sim that only Asobo can fix. The missing key binding for the floats is a limitation of the original aircraft and can only be fixed the original author @ozWookiee.
Based on the Pilots Handbook, this amazing aircraft could actually takeoff from the water at MTOW with flaps up in about 15 seconds! But using 30 degrees of flaps for both takeoff and landing is highly recommended.
In the external view, you can tell when the aircraft is on step by how high the floats and wheels are above the water.

Is anyone experiencing an issue with the wobble pump? Mine will no longer work with the mod installed?
MGouge425 author
This is a modification to the freeware Goose G21A Redux II aircraft, not the payware Goose... The wobble pump is not functional on this aircraft.

Tip of the day: For easier and more precise taxi speed control, leave one engine at idle and use the other one to control your speed. At low RPM using differential power has little or no effect on yaw.

Great quality work, thank you!

Tip of the day: With the ability to fully feather the props, this is now an excellent aircraft for learning and practicing single engine procedures. Read the Single Engine Operation section in the latest version of the included Flight Notes document for some very helpful tips on doing this. Successfully returning to the airport and landing after an engine failure is a very satisfying experience!

@ MGouge425,
Excellent work...very much appreciated...
Don't forget to update the version number in the manifest.json file.
Here it shows version number 1.7.0, but shows 1.6.0 in the manifest.
Thank you for making this plane the best ever...
MGouge425 author
Thanks for your great review!
The manifest.json shows the current version of the original aircraft, and therefore should only be updated by the original author.
