This lighthouse is an adjunct to my Tappan Zee Bridge model. It's just upstream from the bridge and is a prominent landmark for sightseeing. It was constructed in the 1880s and protected shipping from treacherous shoals on the eastern shore.
Also called the Tarrytown Light or the Kingsland Point Light, it was originally a half mile offshore, and its keepers lived in the tower and used a boat to go shopping. Later, landfill to accommodate the expanding General Motors plant covered the dangerous shoals and made the lighthouse obsolete. Local preservationists came to its rescue, and it is now listed in The National Register of Historic Places and open for tours.

This model is like my more than forty other bridges and landmarks around New York City. It is detailed on close examination, but two more Levels of Detail keep it framerate-friendly as you travel the Hudson Corridor.
